No Signal Screen

What it shows

A screen of soft gray television static with faint horizontal scan lines, and a plain dark box in the middle reading "No signal". It looks like a screen that has lost its input, which makes it a quick prank or a prop for a video. Press Go Fullscreen to fill the screen with it.

The box is dark with white words, so it stays easy to read from across a room or on camera. There is no hiss either: the page makes no sound at all, and it names no cable or input, so it suits any screen.

Why the static does not move

Real TV static changes every fraction of a second: thousands of tiny points turning light and dark many times a second. That is a flicker, and this site does not show flickering or flashing pictures. So the static here is a single frozen moment, drawn once and never changed while it is shown, and there is no option to set it moving.

The grain is also kept soft. Its darkest and lightest grays stay less than 0.1 apart in relative luminance, a measure of brightness from 0 for black to 1 for white, and the grain is never finer than two pixels. That is a conservative design limit for this picture, borrowed from the one used for stripes on this site; it is not a medical threshold, and it does not mean the picture suits everyone.

Leaving it

Press Esc, click, or tap anywhere, and it closes, exactly as every full-screen tool on this site does. On a phone that cannot go full screen, the picture covers the browser window instead and an Exit button stays in the corner. Keep screen awake starts switched on while it is shown, and the status line says whether your browser agreed. Nothing is installed, changed, stored or sent.
