How the run works

Choose 5 or 10 seconds, then click the pad. Nothing counts down first: the clock starts on your first click, so every click in the run is yours. When the time is up the count stops by itself and the result appears as clicks per second.

The pad also responds to Space and Enter, so the test works from a keyboard as well as a mouse, and on a touchscreen a tap counts the same as a click.

What the number is

It is your clicking speed in this browser, on this device, at this moment. It is a measure of the person far more than of the mouse: grip, finger, forearm and how much sleep you had all move it, and so does the way you click, since tapping with two fingers alternately beats one finger every time.

Nothing is saved, ranked or compared with anyone else. There is no scoreboard here and no account to sign into, so the only comparison worth making is with your own previous run, in the same position, on the same hardware.

What it cannot tell you

It cannot measure your mouse. A switch that sends two clicks for one press will flatter your score rather than showing up as a fault, which is exactly why the Double Click Test exists as a separate tool. It cannot measure polling rate, input lag or latency either, and it will not tell you whether a game counts clicks the way this page does: many limit how fast a click can register.
